A Land Acknowledgement Template

Land acknowledgements are an honest and historically accurate way to recognize the traditional First Nations, Métis and/or Inuit territories of a place. They can be presented verbally or visually: think signage, short theatre presentations or simple spoken-word greetings. They also help Canadians recognize and respect Indigenous peoples’ inherent kinship beliefs when it comes to the land, especially since those beliefs were restricted for so long.

Land acknowledgements must be meaningful, it’s not something you do “because you have to.” Doing prior research and education is essential in drafting a meaningful script. The CEC D&I Committee has prepare a Land Acknowledgement Template to support members of the community in their inclusion efforts.

A Collection of Diversity & Inclusion Resources

The CEC Diversity & Inclusion Committee has put together a Google Document full of resources regarding diversity and inclusion in climbing, and in sport in general. This is meant to be a live document, and will be updated as often as possible by the committee. If you know of great resources that should be added to this list, please contact the committee.

CEC GENDER EQUITY GRANT Program
