CLIMBING ESCALADE CANADA JOINING ABUSE-FREE SPORT ON APRIL 1

Jan 26, 2023

Climbing Escalade Canada (CEC) has taken another important step towards protecting participants through fostering a safe environment that is free of abuse, harassment or discrimination.

CEC is adding participation in Abuse-Free Sport™ to its existing robust Safe Sport system. Abuse-Free sport is the new independent program developed by the Sport Dispute Resolution Centre of Canada (SDRCC) to prevent and address maltreatment in sport. CEC has entered into a Signatory Agreement with the SDRCC to access the services of the Office of the Sport Integrity Commissioner (OSIC), which serves as the central hub of Abuse-Free Sport™, following a transition period which will end no later than April 1, 2023.

“Climbing Escalade Canada has always been committed to creating and fostering a safe sporting environment.” says Christiane Marceau, Executive Director of Climbing Escalade Canada. “By joining Abuse-Free Sport™, we reinforce this commitment, and we support a growing national movement that is changing the culture of sport in this country.”

CEC has adopted the Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport (UCCMS), and will be updating its Safe Sport Policies to be compliant and coherent with the UCCMS during the transition period.

Once our transition is complete, UCCMS-covered participants of Climbing Escalade Canada will have access to the services provided by Abuse-Free Sport™, as per our National Complaint Process. Understanding that some complaints may not be admissible to Abuse-Free Sport™, CEC will maintain the services of its Independent Third Party, Brian Ward, who can be reached at [email protected]

There is more information about the Abuse-Free Sport™ program HERE. The CEC Safe Sport page will be updated with more information by the effective date of April 1, 2023.
